Gail Meckley Obituary

Gail Marie (Hahn) Meckley, age 51, of East Berlin, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2020, at UPMC West Shore Hospital in Mechanicsburg following a courageous battle with cancer. She was the devoted wife of Scott G. Meckley, to whom she was married for 25 years.

Born on November 14, 1968, in Westminster, Maryland, Gail was the daughter of Richard and Deborah (Schue) Hahn of Littlestown.

Gail was a 1987 graduate of Littlestown High School and earned degrees from Western Maryland College, Wilson College, and Shippensburg University. She worked for Dauphin County Case Management Unit in Harrisburg for several years before making a career change and becoming a teacher. She taught 5th grade at Sporting Hill Elementary School in Mechanicsburg for 13 years up until the time of her death. She loved teaching, being around kids, and her fellow teaching colleagues.

Gail had many hobbies and enjoyed learning and doing new things. She enjoyed photography, cooking, painting, bird watching, and playing the piano. She loved visiting breweries and trying a tasty IPA. She was an avid reader, loved movies and all things Harry Potter. She was very active, enjoying running, Zumba, kayaking, biking, and especially playing pickle ball with her Lake Meade pickle ball friends. She supported all animal causes and had many feline friends during her life that she cherished. She was a die-hard Philadelphia Union soccer fan, and she stuck by the Baltimore Orioles even during their dreariest seasons.

In addition to her husband and parents, Gail is survived by one son, Matthew E. Meckley, of East Berlin; one sister, Megan S. Hahn Abell and her husband Gary of Hanover; and one niece, Ivy Abell. Being a mother was her greatest joy in life, and she loved and adored her son, parents, sister, and niece. Gail also will be greatly missed by her “boys”, cats Kohl and Melchior.

Due to ongoing coronavirus precautions and limitations, burial will be private and at the convenience of her family. Interment will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Littlestown. A Celebration of Life gathering will take place at a future date once the world returns to normal again. In the meantime, lift your glass to Gail and remember her joyous spirit.

A scholarship fund is currently being planned in Gail’s memory. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation payable to the Sporting Hill Elementary PTO. Donations can be sent to: Gail Meckley Memorial, c/o Dayl Lynn Shaddock – Sporting Hill Principal, 11 Teaberry Drive, Carlisle, PA 17015.

Memorial contributions can also be made in Gail’s memory to the Helen O. Krause Animal Foundation (HOKAFI), P.O. Box 311, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055-0311.

Feiser Funeral Home, 302 Lincoln Way West, New Oxford, will be handling arrangements. Online condolences may be shared at www.feiserfuneralhome.com.
