Obituary

Elvin C. “Sonny” Lau, 91, passed away at Cumberland Crossings in Carlisle April 25, 2023.  He was the loving husband of, and is survived by, Betty L (Lau) Lau; together they shared 37 years of marriage. 

Born during a big snow storm on March 14, 1932 at his Uncle’s home on West Philadelphia St. in York, PA, he was the son of the late Robert S. Lau and Isabella V. (Grove) Lau.  The attending Doctor was Sonny’s Great Uncle, the late Robert E. Lau.

Sonny was a graduate of East Berlin High School, class of 1950, and was Co-owner of Lau’s Variety Store in East Berlin after serving in the Korean War in the 2nd Infantry Division, 82D Antiaircraft Battalion.  He was a member of the Honor Guard while returning to the U.S.  He enjoyed his life in East Berlin and had many loyal customers and friends. He was a life member of the East Berlin VFW, Richard Gross Post 8896, and the Shiloh American Legion Post 791.

In addition to his wife, Sonny is survived by a brother, Wayne Lau and his wife Yvonne of New Oxford, step-niece Sue Harmon, three stepsons, Allen Alban and his wife Victoria of Hanover, Jim Alban and his wife Pamela of Chambersburg, Bart Alban and the mother of their son, Tina Alban, of Bellevue, NE, two step-grandsons, Chad Alban of Reading, Bart Alban, Jr. and his wife Maria of Bellevue, NE, three step-great grandsons, Benjamin Alban and Carson Alban of Reading, Alexander Alban and step-great granddaughter Penelope of Bellevue,  NE.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a step-grandson, Eric Alban.

Per Sonny’s wishes, he will be cremated and a graveside service will be held privately at the convenience of the immediate family. Feiser Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
