David Hillyer Obituary

David W. “Dave” Hillyer, 79, of Hanover, passed Friday, October 13, 2023 at UPMC Hanover Hospital. He was the husband of Virginia R. “Ginny” (Zaner) Hillyer, his wife of 54 years.

Dave was born June 15, 1944 in Ranova, the son of the late Howard R. and Doris Ann (Pearce) Hillyer, Jr.

Dave was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, New Oxford. He received his Bachelors degree from Lock Haven University and his Master’s degree in Education from Shippensburg University. Dave was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving post-Korean War in Korea. Dave taught for over 32 years in the Conewago Valley School district. At 70 years old, Dave decided he would learn how to play golf so he could play the game with his grandchildren. 

In addition to his wife, Ginny, Dave is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Twyman and her husband Ray of Hanover, and Julie Hillyer-Wisniewski and her husband Tim of Phillipsburg, five grandchildren, Rabon, Brady and Evan Twyman, Ava and Aiden Wisniewski, two brothers, Jake Hillyer and his wife Becky of Tx, and Eric Hillyer and his wife Kristi of Springfield, Il, a sister, Ellen Bower of Spokane, WA, a sister-in-law, Sally Hillyer of CO, a best friend, Ron Muller of Reading, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Hillyer and a brother-in law, Robert Bower.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, October 20, 2023, at 10 AM, at Immaculate Conception Church, 106 Carlisle St. New Oxford, with Rev. Keith Carroll officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A viewing will be Feiser Funeral Home, Inc, 302 Lincoln Way West, New Oxford Thursday, October 19, 2023, from 6 -8 PM.  Prayer services will follow at 8 PM at the Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 106 Carlisle ST, New Oxford, PA, 17350 or St. Mary’s Annunciation Ukrainian Catholic Church, 22 Bentz St, Ramey, PA, 16671.
