Carman Baker Obituary

Carman E. Baker, 91, born March 28, 1932, in Abbottstown, passed into eternal life on Monday, January 29, 2024, at Providence Place, Dover.  He was the devoted husband of the late Doris V. (Myers) Baker, his wife of 61 years, who passed away on December 24, 2013. Carman was the son of the late Charles W. and Bertha M. (Rodgers) Baker.

Carman is survived by two daughters, Kathy Seilhamer and her husband Barry of Harrisburg, Kerri Musselman and her husband George of Dover, a son, Keith Baker and his wife Debbie of Lewisberry, his loving companion and best friend, Martha Adams of Dillsburg, four grandchildren, a step grandson, eight great grandchildren, his sister, Helen Hagarman (husband Richard) of Hanover, and his brother, Thomas Baker (wife Ruthetta) of Abbottstown. He was predeceased by four brothers and four sisters. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Carman was a life-long member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Abbottstown. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was employed with the Asplundh Tree Company for 47 years, retiring in the position of vice-president, and post-retirement, was well known in the Abbottstown and East Berlin area for his tree removal service. He was a member of Hebron Lodge #465, New Oxford, East Berlin V.F.W., New Oxford Social and Athletic Club, and Tall Cedars of Lebanon. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, bowling and the time he spent with his immediate and extended family and friends.

Following cremation, a service to celebrate Carman’s life will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 12 PM, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 100 E. Water St, Abbottstown, with his pastor, Rev. Shawn Berkebile officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Military honors will be provided by Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.  The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday morning from 10:30 AM until the time of the service.
