William J. "Bill" Smith, Sr, 90, of Gettysburg, passed, Saturday, September 7, 2024 at the home of his daughter Sharon. He was the husband of the late Doris P. (Hahn) Smith, his wife of 67 years, who passed November 23, 2020.
Bill was born November 2, 1933, in Bonneauville, the son of the late Linus F. and Catherine M. (Wagner) Smith.
Bill was a member of St. Joseph's "The Worker" Catholic Church in Bonneauville and the Catholic War Veterans, Bonneauville. Bill served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and enjoyed gardening, growing his roses and country music dancing.
Bill is survived by a son, William J. Smith, Jr, and his wife Lisa, of Dade City, FL, a daughter, Teresa A. Smeak and her husband Bill, of Hanover, a son, Daniel F. Smith of Gettysburg, a daughter, Sharon E. Spangler of Gettysburg, a daughter, Laurie F. Schue and her husband Alan of Littlestown, eleven grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Susan L. Smith, a daughter-in-law, Melody Smith, three sisters, Mary Matthews, Teresa Shanebrook, and Helen Cease, and two brothers, Richard Smith and Raymond Smith.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, September 16, 2024, at 9:30 AM, at St. Joseph's "The Worker" Cemetery, 12 E. Hanover St, Bonneauville, with Rev. Benny Jose officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to Amedisys Hospice Care, 984 Loucks Rd, Suite 1, York, PA 17404.
