Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we share the peaceful passing of William S. Hoffacker Jr. (Bill). A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Bill leaves behind a legacy of love, inspiration, selflessness, and compassion.

Bill was the beloved husband of Cindy, to whom he was married for 58 years. Their deep love was especially evident in the care she provided him during the final years of his life. He often reminded everyone, "No one takes better care of me than Cyn." Bill was a loving father to his son, Bill, and wife Theresa, and to his daughter, Molly (Wildasin), and husband Travis. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to his grandsons, Ethan Matthew Wildasin, Drew Liam Wildasin, Brandon Brady, and Michael Brady, and great granddaughter Caroline Brady. Bill's family was the joy of his life; his steadfast love and dedication to them will continue to guide and inspire them always.

Born in Hanover, Pennsylvania on January 8, 1947, Bill was the son of the late William and Nadine (Bollinger) Hoffacker. He graduated from Hanover High School in 1964, earned his teaching degree from Towson University, and later completed his counseling degree at Western Maryland College.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, Nelson and Mary Orndorff; his brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Yvonne Emig; his brothers-in-law Robert Orndorff, Rich Shelley; and his great-niece, Karigen Emig. He is survived by his brother, Mike Hoffacker; sisters Karen Hesson, Cathy Shelley, Jodi Slagle, and Cindy Rodkey; along with many cherished brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews whom he adored.

Bill married Cindy, the love of his life, on June 24, 1967. Together, they treasured time spent with family and friends, enjoyed trips to casinos, family vacations at the beach, and countless memories shared around their pool.

Bill was an influential teacher, mentor, counselor, and coach who dedicated over 39 years to the field of education. He spent many years at New Oxford High School, where the impact he made on students extended far beyond the classroom. He later became a guidance counselor at New Oxford, always believing in putting students first. A quote that hung in his office read, "It breaks my heart that I can't solve all your problems, but it heals my heart that God gave you to me to try." Bill concluded his career at South Western, where he served as a guidance counselor for 18 years. The impact he had on so many lives is clear through the countless stories shared by former students, colleagues, and friends.

Bill had a deep love for sports and spent many years coaching football, basketball, and track. When he wasn't coaching, he could usually be found watching ESPN, especially enjoying football games with his son, Bill. His grandsons were his greatest joy, and he loved watching them compete in their own sports. As his health declined he could no longer attend their games in person, but we now take comfort in knowing he will now be watching them proudly from the best seat in the house from above.

Giving, humble, loving, and brave are just a few of the words that describe Bill. He was a remarkably generous man with a heart of gold. To this day, the stories of his influence, generosity, and the kindness he showed to others continue to touch his family. He gave selflessly, never asking for anything in return. One cause especially close to Bill's heart was ensuring that families in need could experience the joy of Christmas. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor his memory by paying his kindness forward—whether by sponsoring a family or child this holiday season, or by offering an act of kindness, just as Bill would have done.
