William G. "Bill" Garland, 83, passed away peacefully at his home on March 2, 2017. He was the husband of Carol E. (Nailly) Garland with whom they would have celebrated their 60th anniversary on June 1, 2017. He also leaves a son, Jeffrey A. Garland of Seven Valleys; one brother, Robert J. Garland of Hanover; two sisters, Betty J. Bowman of Baltimore, MD, and Barbara R. Sprinkle and her husband, Ronald, of Mission Viego, CA, and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was born August 8, 1933 in Roan Mountain, TN, the son of the late Dolph and Alice (Calhoun) Garland. Bill proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1957. He worked for the Elsner Engineering Works in Hanover, for 37 years while finding time to pursue his and Carol's love of travel to all 50 states and Canada. After retiring, they continued their travels visiting many foreign countries around the world. He was a great husband, father and friend who enjoyed spending time with his family, and all who loved him dearly. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 12 p.m. at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 Lincolnway East, New Oxford, with Rev. Elizabeth D. George officiating. Burial will be in New Oxford Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Tuesday at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund, First Lutheran Church, 200 Lincolnway East, New Oxford, PA. 17350.
