Vesta (Wilson) Statler, a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at the WellSpan York Hospital. She was the wife of J. Owen Statler with whom she shared 68 years of marriage. She resided at Cross Keys Village and The Brethren Home Community for the past 12 years.
Vesta was born on October 31, 1935 in Franklin County, the only child of the late Nelson and Iva (Hager) Wilson.
Vesta spent her early years in Franklin County, PA. She obtained her high school diploma from Greencastle High School, Greencastle, PA. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary education from Shippensburg State Teachers College, Shippensburg, PA. She was a homemaker and employed for several years with the Waynesboro Area School District, Waynesboro, PA. Both her husband and her moved to Dallastown, PA in 1960, where she was employed briefly with the Red Lion Area School District. Also, she was employed at the Cardique Shop and lastly employed at King Brothers Insurance Agency, both in York, PA. In addition to caring for her family over the years, she was active at her church, First Church of the Brethren, York, PA, for over 50 years and was currently a member of The Faith Community Church of the Brethren, Cross Keys Village. She enjoyed volunteering and participating at the York Hospital, Cross Keys Village The Brethren Home Community, and at the Brethren Service Center, New Windsor, MD. Vesta enjoyed family gatherings and family trips. She and Owen did various bus trips and Road Scholar Programs.
In addition to her husband, J. Owen, Vesta is survived by two daughters, Julie Carol Ilyes and her husband John of York and Laura Beth Merena and her husband Stephen of Jericho, VT, three grandsons, Jordan Michael Ilyes and his wife Alicia of York, James Statler Ilyes and his wife Hannah of Glenville, and Robert James Merena of Jericho, VT, two granddaughters, Joanna Michelle Wilfong and her husband James of York, and Amylaine Shea Merena of Jericho, VT, six great grandchildren, Payton James McWilliams, Brooklyn Rose McWilliams, Kennedy Rose Ilyes, Reeve Owen Ilyes, Leah Ann Ilyes and Camden John Wilfong.
A service to honor the life of Vesta will be held at Feiser Funeral Home, Inc, 302 Lincoln Way West, New Oxford, on Friday, July 18, 2025 at 11 AM, with Pastor John Ilyes officiating. Burial will be private at the Upton Brethren Church Cemetery, Greencastle, PA. Friends will be received by the family, at a viewing at the funeral home Friday from 9:30 AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Good Samaritan Fund of The Brethren Home Community, 2990 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford, PA, 17350.
