Obituary

Velma D. Eller, 95, of Hagerstown, Maryland, died at home on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. She was the widow of A. Grayson Eller.
Born on June 22, 1931, in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, Velma was a daughter of Charlie and Edna Fender Brown. She graduated from Millers Creek High School in Wilkes County, North Carolina, in 1952.

She married Grayson on August 2, 1952. They moved to Pennsylvania in April 1954, living first in Hunterstown and then, after almost a year in North Carolina in 1967–68, in the Abbottstown area. She moved to Hagerstown after his death in 2017.

An accomplished self-taught seamstress, she made clothing for her family, and everything from raincoats to wedding gowns for customers. During the Covid pandemic, she made and gave away 1,850 cloth face masks.

Her home was surrounded by flowering plants, and she and Grayson grew enough vegetables and fruit to feed their family and share with friends.

A member of Great Conewago Presbyterian Church since 1963, she served the church in many ways, from cleaning the interior to teaching Sunday school to serving on the session for six years. She made pew cushions for the sanctuary and tablecloths for the fellowship hall, and for years provided grape juice for Communion from her homegrown grapes.

Surviving is three children, Anita (and husband John) Drummond of Hagerstown, Tina (and husband Kurt) Noll of Waynesboro, and Tim (and wife Liza) Eller of Springfield, Virginia; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sue Harrold of Hays, North Carolina. Four brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.

A viewing will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026 at Feiser Funeral & Cremation Care, 302 Lincoln Way West, New Oxford, PA from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Velma's Funeral Service at Conewago Presbyterian Church, 174 Red Bridge Road, Gettysburg, on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Brand Eaton officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow at Great Conewago Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
