Thomas James Downing, 87, passed Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at UPMC Harrisburg Hospital.  He was the husband of Nancy L. (Noterman) Downing, his wife of 47 years.

Tom was born July 21, 1937, in Philadelphia, the son of the late Thomas James and Margaret "Peg" (Rhodes) Downing.

Tom was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in New Oxford, and was a graduate of Central High School in Philadelphia, Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania.

Tom worked as a civilian communications engineer for the United States Army at Frankford Arsenal, Fort Ritchie, Fort Detrick, and other locations.

In addition to his wife Nancy, Tom is survived by a son, Thomas Joseph Downing and his wife Allison of Mount Joy, and two granddaughters: Norah Downing and Lucy Downing.

A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, New Oxford, on Saturday, May 24th at 11am. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 20 S.
