Thomas M. Baker, 96, passed Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Providence Place, Dover. He was the husband of Ruthetta M. (Forry) Baker, his wife of 76 years.
Tom was born May 15, 1928, in Abbottstown, the son of the late Charles W. and Bertha E. (Rodgers) Baker.
Tom was a life member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Abbottstown, where he sang on the choir for 55 years, and Abbottstown Fire Company. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, retired from Asplundh Tree Expert Company as a general foreman after 45 years of service, and was a member of Hebron Lodge #465, New Oxford, and Spring Grove V.F.W.
In addition to his wife Ruthetta, Tom is survived by three daughters, Leslie A. Sprenkle and her husband Philip of Spring Grove, Trudy C. Gentzler and her husband Randall of Parkton, MD, and Kelly S. Leib and her husband Brian of Spring Grove, seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and a sister, Helen Hagerman of Hanover. He was predeceased by five brothers, Ralph, Earl, Mervin, Merle and Carman Baker, and four sisters, Beatrice Baker, Marie Alleman, Nancy Newcomer and Miriam Huff.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 11 AM, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 100 E. Water, Abbottstown, with his pastor, Rev. Shawn Berkebile officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John's Endowment Fund.
