Theresa A. (Smith) Carbaugh, 78, passed Thursday, July 3, 2025, at WellSpan York Hospital. She was the wife of Stephen M. Carbaugh, her husband of 59 years.
Theresa was born June 13, 1947, in New Oxford, the daughter of the late Louis J. and Margaret R. (Staub) Smith.
Theresa was a 1965 graduate of Delone Catholic High School and a life-long member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Oxford, where she was a choir member and served as lector and an extraordinary minister. Anybody who crossed paths with Theresa considered her a friend.
In addition to her husband Stephen, Theresa is survived by her children; Catherine A. Carbaugh of New Oxford, Judith E. Garrett and her husband Robert of Emmitsburg, MD, Mark L. Carbaugh and his wife Jennifer of Biglerville, and Lori A. Lawrence and her husband Andrew of McSherrystown, nine grandchildren; Julian Dravk, Bethany Altland, Mallory Sourbeer, Drew Altland, William Altland, Christopher Carbaugh, Mark Carbaugh, Jr, Maggie Lawrence and Adam Lawrence, two great grandchildren; Liam Altland and Mila Sourbeer, two brothers; Frederick G. Smith of Dover and Michael D. Smith of New Oxford, and a cousin-in-law, Linda Harris of New Oxford. She was predeceased by a daughter, Jacquelyn R. Lawrence, four brothers; Joseph, John, Burnell and Bernard Smith, and three sisters; Mary Miller, Joanne Reese and Patricia Spinelli.
Following cremation, a memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 11 AM, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 106 Carlisle St, New Oxford, with Rev. Keith Carroll officiating. Burial will be the church cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 10 AM until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception. At the family's request, please wear something bright and colorful for Theresa's service in honor of her love of life and all things bright and floral or dealing with nature.
