Shirley C. Milhimes, 96, passed Thursday, February 13, 2025, at The Brethren Home Community. He was the husband of Opal M. (Wyatt) Milhimes.
Shirley was born November 6, 1928, in New Oxford, the son of the late Cletus M. and Nellie V. (Dellinger) Milhimes.
Shirley was a life member of St. Paul's "The Pines" Lutheran Church, where he served on church council, Adult Sunday School Treasurer, and Crusaders Sunday School Class, and was a 1946 graduate of New Oxford High School. He began his career working for his uncle Charles E. Milhimes as a milk hauler and later, along with his wife Opal, became owner-operator of Milhimes Milk Transfer and Water Hauling. Starting in 1990, Shirley worked for 33 years at Feiser Funeral Home. He was also a member of many Shriners Clubs, Hebron Lodge #465, New Oxford, Hunterstown Ruritan Club, Hanover Republican Club, Adams County Farm Bureau, a life member of Gettysburg Moose, and New Oxford Social & Athletic Club, and a former member of New Oxford Lions Club and New Oxford Chamber of Commerce.
In addition to his wife Opal, Shirley is survived by a son, Ronald C. Milhimes and his wife Elaine of New Oxford, and two grandsons, Cole C. Milhimes of Heidlersburg, and Luke M. Milhimes of New Oxford. He was predeceased by a sister, Helen M. Zepp, and a brother Leroy Milhimes.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 11 AM, at St. Paul's "The Pines" Lutheran Church, 1535 Hunterstown-Hampton Rd, New Oxford, with Rev. Richard Michaels officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Viewings will be held on Friday from 6-8 PM at Feiser Funeral Home, Inc, 302 Lincoln Way West, New Oxford, and on Saturday at the church from 10 AM until the time of the service.
