Shirley Louise Bortner, 90, of New Oxford, entered God’s eternal care on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at Cross Keys Village. She was born in Hanover, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of the late Lavere M. and Arlene E. (Feeser) Rebert. She was preceded in death by her husbands, George T. Bortner, of 19 years, and Earl E. Bortner, of 49 years.

Shirley was a 1954 graduate of Littlestown High School. From a young age, she had a special gift for baking. At just 16 years old, she was named the Adams County Cherry Pie Champion and went on to place third in the state competition—an accomplishment she was always proud of.

Music was another special part of her life. She shared her gift by faithfully playing the piano and organ at Evangelical Christian Church of Hanover for more than 25 years. Her music became a meaningful part of worship and touched the lives of many in her church family.

Shirley also had a true love for gardening. Her flowers were her pride and joy. She also had a special fondness for snowmen and loved collecting them, filling shelves throughout her home with her treasured collection.

She will be remembered most for the way she brought laughter to others and had a way of making ordinary moments into memories.

Shirley was a devoted mother and a beloved member of a large blended family. She is survived by her children, Gary Bortner, Earl Bortner, Jr., Barry Bortner, Timothy Bortner, Christine Noyes, Barbara Menges, Dwight Bortner, Gwendolyn Cottle, Teresa Bedtelyon, Travis Bortner, Kimberly Bankert, Gail Fesh, Troy Bortner, and Arlis Bortner; her siblings, Vivian Bortner and Robert Rebert; 40 grandchildren; and more than 70 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Shirley was preceded in death by her siblings, Estella Zartman, Gerald Rebert, and Dale Rebert.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Shirley’s Funeral Service at the Nicarry Meeting House, Cross Keys Village, 2990 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford, PA, 17350, on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be at Marburg Memorial Gardens.
