Rodney J. "Pita" Staub, 94, died Monday, August 8, 2016 at Hanover Hospital. He was the husband of Doris L. (Leese) Staub, his wife of 72 years.
Pita was born June 19, 1922 in New Oxford, the son of the late Cletus A. and Annie M. (Shrader) Staub.
Pita was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Oxford, served in the U.S. Army during WWII, and bred, trained and drove his own sulky horses. He was a member of the American Legion in Hanover, a life member of the New Oxford Social & Athletic Club, where he enjoyed playing cards, and was a former member of the U.S. Trotting Association. He worked as a custodian at Immaculate Conception School and was an avid NY Yankees fan.
In addition to his wife Doris, Pita is survived by a son, Wayne B. Staub and his wife, Donna of Camp Connell, CA; a daughter, Pamela S. Mougeotte of Abbottstown; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Pauline S. Plank of Indianapolis, IN. He was predeceased by three sisters, Jane T. Staub, Marian S. Kuhn, and Evelyn Kuhn; and five brothers, Ralph, Ryland, Cyril, Paul, and Robert Staub.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 12, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 106 Carlisle St, New Oxford, with the Rev. Michael Letteer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Feiser Funeral Home, Inc, 302 Lincolnway West, New Oxford with prayers at 6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
