Robert “Bob” William Emig, 72, of Abbottstown, Pennsylvania, passed away unexpectedly. Born in Hanover, Pennsylvania, Bob lived a life defined by hard work, laughter, generosity, and, most of all, his love for his family.

Bob was the beloved husband of Debora, his wife of 49 years and the love of his life. Together, they built a life filled with family, adventure, laughter, and countless memories.

He was the proud father of two daughters, Crystal Wilcox and her husband, Jeremy, of Dover, and Christie Murphy and her husband, Jim, of York. Nothing brought Bob more joy than being Grandpa to his two grandsons, Owen and Evan Wilcox. His grandsons were the light of his life, and he took great pride in sharing his love of the outdoors, hunting, and archery with them. The memories they made together will be treasured forever.

Bob is also survived by his sister, Barbara Pauley, and his brother, Todd Emig, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and an aunt. To his family, Bob was known for many things, but perhaps most of all, he was the jokester—the guy who could always find a way to make someone laugh.

Bob was a hardworking man who took great pride in his work. He spent an incredible 43 years as a batch plant operator for Zeigler’s Concrete, a testament to his dedication and strong work ethic. After retiring, Bob continued to work as a truck driver for Deer Ridge Trucking and Winand Trucking. He was dependable, hardworking, and the kind of person people could always count on.

When Bob wasn't working, you could often find him outdoors. He was an avid hunter and archer who loved being outside and sharing those passions with his family. One of his greatest adventures came when he and Debora traveled to South Africa for a two-week hunting safari—an unforgettable experience they shared together.

But above everything else, Bob loved his family. He cherished the beach trips, camping vacations, family gatherings, and all of the simple moments that brought everyone together. He didn't need anything fancy to be happy. Having his family around him was enough.

Bob had a heart for helping people. If someone needed a hand, he was there. He gave his time, his effort, and whatever help he could provide without expecting anything in return. That generosity was simply part of who he was.

And then there was his sense of humor. Bob loved to laugh, and he loved making other people laugh. He could turn an ordinary moment into a funny story and was always ready with a joke or a smart remark. His laughter and the memories of his sense of humor will undoubtedly be some of the things his family misses most.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Clair and Phyllis Emig, and his brother, Jed Emig. He leaves behind a family who loved him deeply and a lifetime of memories that will never be forgotten. He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend—and to each of those people, he was something a little different. But to all of them, he was simply Bob, and there will never be another one like him.

His legacy isn't measured by the years he lived, but by the lives he touched, the laughter he shared, the people he helped, and the love he gave his family.
Bob will be deeply missed, but he will never be forgotten.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Bob’s funeral service at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 E Water Street, Abbottstown, PA on Wednesday, September 23, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Shawn Berkebill officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be held in St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. John's Touch of Grace Fund, in honor of Bob’s generosity and commitment to helping others.
