Richard E. Sanders "Dick", 94, died Tuesday, August 16, 2016, at the Hanover Hospital. He was the husband of the late Anna E. (Emig) Sanders, who died on July 24, 1971.
Dick was born June 26, 1922 in New Oxford, the son of the late Charles M. and Nellie Irene (Jacobs) Sanders, Sr. Dick was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army stationed in the Panama Canal area during 1943. He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Abbottstown. Dick was an insurance salesman most of his life with United Insurance Co. in Hanover. Dick was a member of the Gettysburg Chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America, a life member of the East Berlin VFW Post 6918, a member of the American Legion in Biglerville, and a life member of the New Oxford Social and Athletic Club. Dick enjoyed building bird houses and did furniture restoration for the his church. Dick is survived by a daughter, Sunnee L. Sanders, and a son, Toby A. Sanders, both of Abbottstown; and a brother, Charles M. Sanders and his wife Frances of Carlisle. He was predeceased by a son, Terry Sanders.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2016, at 10 a.m. from the St. John's Lutheran Church, 100 E. Water St., Abbottstown, with Pastor Shawn Berkebile officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Abbottstown. A viewing will be held Friday, August 19, 2016, at the Feiser Funeral Home, Inc., 302 Lincolnway West, New Oxford, from 6-8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
