Melvin E. "Buck" Starner, 76, died peacefully on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at The Brethren Home Community surrounded by his loving children and grandchildren, to rejoin the love of his life, Sally L. (Inskip) Starner, his wife of 49 years who died March 18, 2010.
Buck was born August 5, 1940, in York Springs, the son of the late Melvin J. and Mary A. (Davis) Starner.
Buck was a member of St. John's U.C.C. in New Chester, where he was a past president of church council, the East Berlin V.F.W., Hampton Fire Company, and he was a life member of the New Oxford Social & Athletic Club. For most of his life he was a farmer and seed corn salesman, and most recently worked at the Hanover Market for Hughes Meats. Buck loved his grandchildren, always had a smile on his face, was known for making his barbeque chicken for the community, and was loved by many.
Buck is survived by his children, Scott E. Starner and his wife, Mary of Amity, MO, Susan K. Noble and her husband, David, Timothy C. Starner and his wife, Wendy, and Debbie J. Thoman and her husband, Mike, Jr, all of New Oxford; eight grandchildren, Ashley K. Hockensmith and her husband, Shane, Kristopher J.E. Starner, Clayton E. Noble and his wife, Kylie, Tyson J.E. Starner, Michael E. Thoman, Quinn T. Starner, Ross E. Starner, and Amy S. Thoman and her fiancée, Andrew Reynolds; a great-granddaughter, Reagan K. Hockensmith; a brother, Samuel E. Starner of New Oxford; and a sister, Patsy Baker of VA.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at 10 a.m. at St. John's U.C.C., 2243 Hunterstown-Hampton Rd, New Oxford, with his pastor, the Rev. Douglas C. Hahn, officiating. Burial will be in Hampton Union Cemetery. Viewings will be held at the church on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m., and on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the church. Feiser Funeral Home, Inc, 302 Lincolnway West, New Oxford, is in charge of arrangements.
