Melvin J. Riser, 82, died Monday, January 13, 2020, at his residence.  He was the husband of Sylvia A. (Gallagher) Riser, his wife of 48 years.

Melvin was born May 27, 1937, in McSherrystown, the son of the late John W. and Catherine M. (Ackerman) Riser.

Melvin was a member of Sacred Heart Basilica in Edgegrove.

In addition to his wife Sylvia, Melvin is survived by a son, Shawn M. Riser and his wife Tiffany of York Springs, two grandchildren, Emily C. Riser and Ethan M. Riser, three brothers, John Riser, Robert Riser and James Riser, and four sisters, Mary Allison, Donna Merrifield, Rita Wagaman and Barbara Pate.  He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Riser and a sister, Rose Zartman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 17, 2019, at 10 AM, at Sacred Heart Basilica, 30 Basilica Dr, Hanover, with Rev. Joseph R. Howard officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  A viewing will be held on Thursday from 6-8 PM at the Feiser Funeral Home, Inc, 302 Lincoln Way West, New Oxford.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 610 Community Way, Lancaster, PA 17603.  Memories may be shared at www.feiserfuneralhome.com.
