Melvin R. "Mel" Lehr, 88, passed on Monday, August 26, 2024, at UPMC Memorial Hospital, York.  He was the loving husband of Patricia A. (Wagner) Lehr.  They would have celebrated their 62nd anniversary on September 7.

Mel was born June 10, 1936, in York, the son of the late William R. and Anna (Furst) Lehr.

Mel graduated from West York High School in 1954, was part of the 101st Airborne Division in the U.S. Army, and often told stories of his love of jumping out of the airplanes.  A few years after marrying Pat, they bought a farm and the two of them continued dairy farming for 30 years.  After retiring, Mel volunteered with East Berlin Fire police for many years.  He was a devoted Christian, and a long-time member of Bermudian Church in East Berlin.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and a lifetime member of the NRA.

In addition to his wife Pat, Mel is survived by two brothers, Gary Lehr of East Berlin, and Terry Lehr and his wife June of West York, and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by two brothers, Ronald and Carl Lehr and a sister, Alverta Melton.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 11 AM, at Bermudian Church, 279 Bermudian Church Rd, East Berlin, with Pastor Gary Firster officiating.  A viewing will be held at the church of Thursday from 9:30 AM until the time of the service.  Burial will be on Friday at 11 AM, at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, 250 Chestnut Hill Rd, York.  Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675, or to East Berlin Fire Company, 101 E.
