Mary Elizabeth “M.E.” Gruver, 96, of New Oxford, entered eternal rest on Friday, September 18, 2026, at Cross Keys Village, New Oxford. She was born in Newville, PA and was the loving daughter of the late C. Lee and Mary (Fry) Lehman. She was the devoted wife to the late Willis B. Van Dyke and Darwin Gruver.

She was a kindergarten teacher at the York Suburban School District (Valley View, Yorkshire) for 25 years. She was a longtime member of Advent Lutheran Church, York where she sang in the choir for 68 years. Mary loved traveling when she was able. Her hobbies included playing piano, and jigsaw puzzles.

Mary is survived by her children, Gretchen Sipes, Mary Ann Vance, and Richard Van Dyke; grandchildren, Heather Roe, Michael Sipes, Ryan Vance, Erin Wayman, Elisabeth Van Dyke, and Emily Van Dyke; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Barb Nelson; longtime friend, Gail Thomas. In addition to her parents and husbands, Mary was preceded in death by her siblings, Richard Lehman and Suzanne Richardson.

Following Mary’s wishes, services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
