Mary Lillian (Morrison) Boyer, 99, passed away on March 3, 2017. She was born January 14, 1918 in DuBois, the daughter of the late James W. and Ruth (Dougherty) Morrison. She lived in DuBois, Harrisburg, Hershey, Washington, D.C., Trenton, NJ, Indianapolis, IN, Canton, OH, Dayton, OH, and finally moved to Hanover in 1965.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Boyer, who worked for Hanover Shoe for 45 years. Mary graduated from Hershey High School in 1934, and attended Elizabethtown College before beginning a career in golf. Her father was the senior greenskeeper for all five Hershey golf courses and reported directly to Milton Hershey. After three years of training under Henry Picard, she won the Central PA Women's title for three years, the PA State Women's Championship in 1939, and the Mason Dixon Championship at the Green Briar in White Sulphur Springs in 1940. After her husband's death in 1991, she volunteered at Hanover Hospital, Hanover Red Cross, drove for Meals on Wheels for ten years, was a receptionist at the Hanover Council of Churches for five years, and was active in her church. Mary attended over 20 National Buick Club of America meets all over the United States with her husband over 20 years,
Mary is survived by a daughter, Barbara of Gex, France; a son, Richard Jr. and his wife, Karen of Hanover; five grandchildren, Richard Sonntag and his wife, Jeanne of San Antonio, TX, Eric Sonntag and his wife, Monica of Indianapolis, IN, Heather Sonntag of Madison, WI, Richard Boyer, III, and his wife, Rebecca of Austin, TX, and Katherine Boyer, of Austin, TX; and three great- grandchildren, Johnathon Sonntag and Jacob Sonntag, both of Indianapolis, IN, and Maxwell Becker of Austin, TX. She was predeceased by two sisters, Helen Righter, and Betty Kreider; and a brother, James W. Morrison, Jr.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Feiser Funeral Home, Inc, 302 Lincoln Way West, New Oxford, with Pastor Bob McKinney officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Hanover. There will be no viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hanover Council of Churches or to the East Berlin Worship Center, 511 W. King St, East Berlin, PA 17316.
