Margaret (Peg) C. Aumen (nee Harman), was called home to be with her Lord, on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. She was the loving wife of the late Philip Aumen, who died from cancer on April 23, 2000. Together, they shared their lives for 50 years. Peg, who never desired to reach 100 years of age, died peacefully at her home at the age of 96. This fulfilled a desire that she had for many years.
Born in Adams County, PA, on September 16, 1929, she was one of 12 children born to Roy E. and Mary (Hankey) Harman. Peg was a graduate of New Oxford Senior High School, and was one of 3 remaining classmates from the class of 1947.
Raised on the family farm during the Depression, Peg worked earnestly at completing her chores and contributing to life expected from farm children of that era. She and her sisters often went trapping so that the pelts could be sold for extra money, with one of her favorite stories being the proper way to trap skunks. The values learned during this time and on the farm would become the lifelong focus of how to live one’s life. Upon finishing her education, she fell in love with the Aumen boy (Philip) on the next farm over, and they wed on July 2, 1949 when she was 19.
Peg followed her husband when he served in the Army before settling into farming and rural lifestyle in Adams/York Counties where she raised 5 sons: Vincent (Nancy) of Abbottstown; Stephen (Angela) of Dillsburg; Thomas (Rose) of Hanover; James (Kimberly) of Glen Rock; and Jeffrey (Connie) of Milford, KS. For many years, Peg worked the late shift at Revonah/Malcolm Spinning Mills (Hanover) before moving on to retire after many years with Cremer Florists (Hanover).
She and Phil enjoyed many family vacations together, traveling to Canada and throughout the eastern U.S. When finally enjoying an empty nest, Peg and Phil loved to travel. Her favorite places were Hawaii, Ireland and Branson, MO. Accompanied by relatives, they joyfully travelled by van, on a cross-country trip, where Peg was overawed by the scenic beauty of the Rocky Mountains. In later years, when not attending to family gatherings, she resided peacefully in the home which Phil built 67 years ago, often listening to bluegrass or country music on the radio and CD’s, and watching her favorite baseball team, the Baltimore Orioles. On the occasion of her 90th birthday, she was honored by the team with items of memorabilia.
Peg was a lifelong parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbottstown, where she participated often in church activities and picnics.
In addition to her sons and their wives, Peg is survived by 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. As well, she is survived by her bothers Curvin Harman of Florida, and Donald (Carolyn) Harman of Hanover, and many nieces and nephews. Peg was pre-deceased by a grand-daughter, Amber.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM, on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 6084 W. The family will receive family and friends for a viewing at Feiser Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 302 Lincoln Way West, New Oxford, PA, on Monday evening, February 23, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m.
