Leonard C. "Lenny" Shoemaker, 68, died Sunday, January 29, 2017, at The Brethren Home Community. He was the husband of Janey A. (Strouse) Shoemaker.
Lenny was born July 6, 1948 in Dover Twp., York Co., the son of the late Floyd W. and Ethel V. (Richie) Shoemaker, Sr.
Lenny served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, was a member of The Flying Buck (the Shoemaker family cabin in Lycoming Co), and was a life member of the Richard J. Gross V.F.W., Post 8896 in East Berlin. He was formerly employed by Kinsley Construction, Straley Equipment, and he retired from Shiloh Paving. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR, trips to the mountains, country music, special times spent with his daughters and grandchildren, and socializing with family, friends and neighbors.
In addition to his wife Janey, Lenny is survived by two daughters, Angie J. Hughes and her husband Leland of New Oxford, and Amy D. Killeen and her husband Tom of Millington, NJ; five grandchildren, Tommy Killeen, Libby Killeen, Emma Killeen, Maggie Hughes and Ella Hughes; a brother, Donald Shoemaker and his wife Betty of Dover; a sister, Connie Raber and her husband Larry of Dover; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends. He was predeceased by four brothers, Dale, Floyd, Owen and Wayne Shoemaker; and three sisters, Kay Brandt, Hazel Stambaugh, and Shirley Eisenhart.
Following cremation, a celebration of Lenny's life will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2017, at 2 p.m. at the East Berlin V.F.W., 107 Locust St. Extd., East Berlin. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends at the V.F.W. on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Assoc., 912 Killian Hill Rd. SW, Lilburn, GA 30047. Feiser Funeral Home, Inc, 306 Harrisburg St., East Berlin, is in charge of arrangements. Memories may be shared at www.feiserfuneralhome.com.
