Leonard D. Nelson, 87, passed Friday, May 31, 2024 at Country Meadows, Mechanicsburg. He was the husband of Irene O. (Carey) Nelson, his wife of 22 years.

Leonard was born June 15, 1936 in Highspire, the son of the late Carl D. and Rose C. (Ryan) Nelson.

Leonard was a member of Gettysburg Foursquare Church, a 1954 graduate of Highspire High School, owned and operated Nelson's Auto Body Shop, Mechanicsburg for 35 years, and later worked for Lockheed Martin for 10 years as a computer technician. Leonard liked the outdoors, traveling, history, and building things, and was a cub scout leader in York Springs, and a little league baseball coach.

In addition to his wife Irene, Leonard is survived by a daughter, Lori A. Cashman and her husband Rick of East Berlin, three sons, Shawn S. Nelson and his wife Heather of York, Jeffrey L. Nelson of Mechanicsburg, and Jamie L. Nelson and his wife Beth of East Berlin, five step children, Robert Peters and his wife Kathy Jo, of Biglerville, Debra Rose and her husband Jim of Gardners, Daniel Spence and his wife Suzy of Gettysburg, Jason Spence and his wife Maria of Dover, and Dena Burke and her husband Bryan of WI, a daughter-in-law, Kathy Nelson of York, 18 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Joan V. Nelson, a son, Leonard Nelson, Jr, a brother, Carl W. Nelson, two sisters, Josephine Grubbs and Mildred Nissel, and his beloved dog, Diamond.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 11 AM, at Gettysburg Foursquare Church, 328 W. Middle St. Gettysburg with pastor Mark Chester officiating. Burial will be private. A visitation will be held at the church on Saturday form 10 until the time of service. Feiser Funeral Home, Inc, 306 Harrisburg St., East Berlin, is in charge of arrangements.
