Obituary

Larry Lee Mummert, 82, of Adams County, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at Concordia Spirit Trust Home of Hanover on Thursday, October 22, 2026. He was the devoted and loving husband of Yvonne (Jacobs) Mummert, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage. Born on February 17, 1944, in Hanover, Pennsylvania. Larry was the son of the late Nevin C. and Margaret S. (Jacobs) Mummert of East Berlin. Larry graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1962 and began his working career at the P.H. Glatfelter Paper Mill. He later attended The Graham School in Garnett, Kansas, before earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Dairy Science from Delaware Valley University, Doylestown, PA. Following graduation, he began his agricultural career as Farm Manager for D.H. Sharrer & Son (Ag Com, Inc.) before establishing Yellow Buttercup Farm, Inc. in East Berlin, Adams County. Together, Larry and Yvonne dedicated more than four decades to operating a dairy farm and operated Buttercup Farm Market, Inc. until 2015. Larry took tremendous pride in his registered Holstein herd, several excellent-scored cows, and most importantly, the family and friends who worked alongside him throughout the years.

A respected leader in the dairy industry, Larry and Yvonne were honored as Interstate Young Cooperators of the Year. He was a longtime producer for Rutter's Dairy, a dedicated member of Interstate Dairy Cooperative, and served as President of the Adams County Holstein Association. Larry was also a lifetime member of the Dairy Shrine Club, served as a Hamilton Township Supervisor, and devoted his time and talents to numerous agricultural organizations throughout the region. Beyond his passion for agriculture, Larry was a devoted fan of the Baltimore Orioles and Penn State football, rarely missing an opportunity to cheer on his favorite teams.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Yvonne (Jacobs) Mummert; his children, Lela (Mummert) Reichart, Lane and Shanon Mummert, Lisha (Mummert) Hoppe, and Ladd and Tiana Mummert; and his cherished grandchildren, RyderLee, Artem, Connor, Jackson, Georgia, Kingston, Liv, and Shila. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his five brothers, Richard, Dale, Glenn, Earl, and H. Jay Mummert; his two sisters, Helen Thieret and Ada Mae McGregor; and his two sons-in-law, Brian L. Reichart and Matthew C. Hoppe. Larry will be remembered for his strong work ethic, quiet leadership, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his family and the agricultural community.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Larry’s Memorial Service at the Mummert’s Church of the Brethren, 391 Mummerts Church Road, Abbottstown, PA on Thursday, October 29, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be at the Hampton Union Cemetery.
