Karol Sherman, 86, of Abbottstown passed away on March 18th at home surrounded by her children. That's Karol with a "K" was born on October 26, 1938 in Fallston, Maryland. She was the daughter of Elva Bosely Ward and William Archer Hess and was married to the late Charles Sherman for 54 years.
Karol is survived by three children, Jody (Steve) Brown of Perrin, Texas, Amy (Donald/Mouse) Godfrey of East Berlin, Travis (Chris) Sherman of Wellsville, two grandsons, Chasen (Kate) Brown, Camden (Jordan) Brown, three great-grandchildren, Forrest, Layne and Blakely Brown: brothers, Michael (Rox) Hess, Richard Hess, sisters, Barbara and Jackie Hess, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, William A Hess Jr. and a sister, Candy Lee Hess.
Karol was a graduate of York Springs High School where she played varsity basketball and softball and was the illustrator for the yearbook. Judy Weigle Asprocolas of Brick, NJ and Mary Klinger Hoffman of Mt. Joy, PA were her best friends throughout school and even to this day.
She worked as a secretary and a professional assistant for Doubleday, AMF, Hanover Industries, several CPA firms and later as a proofreader for Sheridan Press. Being a farm wife and Charolais cattle raiser was her second job. Karol was an Adams County 4-H leader in the horse and beef clubs for 40 years and was a member of St. John's Church at New Chester.
Karol enjoyed bingo, bingo friends; Pat, Helen and Judy, many wonderful neighbors, gardening, politics and spending time with Buddy, her dog, Missy, her cat, and Henry, her pony. She owned horses all of her life. She wore her riding lawn mowers out and last mowed in Fall of 2024.
A special thank you to the VNA of Hanover and Spring Grove. There could not be any nicer people at this time in our lives.
A service to celebrate Karol's life will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, at 11 AM, at St. John's Church, 2243 Hunterstown-Hampton Rd, New Oxford, with Rev. Douglas C. Hahn officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. There will be no viewing, however, the family will receive friends at visitations on Thursday from 6-8 PM at St. John's, and on Friday from 10 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Biglerville Fire Company, Heidlersburg Fire Company or the Adams County SPCA. Feiser Funeral Home, Inc, 302 Lincoln Way West, New Oxford, is in charge of arrangements. Memories may be shared at www.feiserfuneralhome.com.
