Karen A. Gerstmyer, 78, passed Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at her home at The Brethren Home Community. She was the wife of Robert H. Gerstmyer, her husband of 55 years.
Karen was born March 30, 1947, in Baltimore, MD, the daughter of the late Frank W. and Aleta (Tucker) Adams.
Karen was a member of Hampstead Baptist Church, in Hampstead, MD and Covenant Baptist Church in Shepherdstown, WV, and sang in the Carroll County Chorus and Cross Keys Choir. She was employed by the state of Maryland for 26 years; 6 years at Rosewood Center and 20 years at Townson State University where she worked as an administrative aid in the President's office and the Vice-President's office for administration and finance. After retiring from Towson, Karen served as office manager for the Greater Baltimore Medical Center in the volunteer services office before retiring in 2010.
In addition to her husband Bob, Karen is survived by a son, Robert H. Gerstmyer, Jr and his wife Jeanette of Annapolis, MD, a sister, Arla A. Ely and her husband William of New Oxford, PA, a niece, Lori E. Robinson, three nephews; Kevin Ely, Jeffrey Gerstmyer and Joel Gerstmyer, two great nephews; Gaven Ely and Alec Ely, a great niece, Emily Gerstmyer, and a brother-in-law, David Gerstmyer and his wife Marge of Chase, MD.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 11 AM, at the Nicarry Meeting House of The Brethren Home Community, 2990 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford, with Rev. Linda Titzell and Rev. Linda Warehime officiating. Burial will be private. A viewing will be held at Nicarry on Saturday from 10 AM until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Campbell University, 143 Main St, Buies, NC 27506, or to Building Families for Children, 7412 Columbia Gateway Dr #170, Columbia, MD 21046.
