Joyce M. (Walton) Smith, 79, passed Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at her home. She was the wife of Robert D. Smith, her husband of 60 years.

Joyce was born June 25, 1946, in Hanover, the daughter of the late Lester “Shorty” and Ruth (Bollinger) Walton.

Joyce was vice president of operations at Bank of Hanover.

In addition to her husband Bob, Joyce is survived by a daughter-in-law, Rebecca Smith of Hanover, a granddaughter, Kourtney L. Kauffmann, of New Oxford, a great grandson, Grayson D. Kauffmann, who was the light of her life, of New Oxford, two brothers, Richard Walton and Harold Walton, and two sisters, Mary Kuhn and Shirley Geiger. She was predeceased by two sons, Anthony M. “Tony” Smith and David R. Smith, a sister, Delores Walton and a brother, Lester E. “Sonny” Walton.

At Joyce’s request, there will be no services. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 503 St. Jude Pl, Memphis, TN 38105.
