Jay loved all sports; sprint car racing, basketball, baseball, golf, softball, and the list goes on. He participated in basketball and softball leagues, often playing 4 nights a week, followed by weekend tournaments. When he had children, his role switched to coach. He coached basketball at the Hanover YMCA, CVYBBA, Mid Penn Motion and New Oxford Jr and Sr High Schools, baseball through New Oxford Little League, softball with the New Oxford Flames and PA Ball Hawks, and football with the New Oxford Scramblers. His world truly revolved around his children and family. Jay loved being outdoors, whether it was tending to the lawn for hours on end or planning the next family bike ride or hike. He was always planning the next adventure. Jay was a passionate cyclist, competing in The 3M Bike Challenge 3 years in a row.
