Helen Heldibridle, 85, died in her cottage at 34 Peace Circle, Cross Keys Village, The Brethren Home Community, New Oxford, on August 10, 2016. She was born in Hanover, on 13 February, 1931, the daughter of Goldie Leola (Sullivan) Shorb and Horatio Daniel Shorb. She had survived her siblings, Raymond, Rita and Evelyn.
Helen and her first husband, Richard Bortner ,(deceased) gave birth to two children, Darlene Marie (Bortner) Krepps and Thomas Richard Bortner (deceased). Surviving Helen are her five step children (by marriage to Allen Heldibridle (deceased), Raymond Heldibridle, Barbara Vann, Rosie Gross, Robert Heldibridle, and Donna Winter. Throughout her life, Helen poured herself into the lives of 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild due in October.
Helen and Allen worshiped God together at Bridgeway Community, a Christian church in York County. She spent most of her adult life employed in garment factories, the last of which was Seven Valleys Garment factory, where she made samples for their wholesale clients. Her mission in life revolved around the arts of: hospitality, crochet, creating stuffed animals, needlework, home cooking, producing her numerous award winning quilts, and always giving to others.
A celebration of life service, led by Mr. Jim Zerfing will be held on Thursday August 18, 2016 at 7 PM in the Nicarry Meetinghouse, located at Cross Keys Village, The Brethren Home Community, 2990 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford, (most easily accessible via PA route 30). Time for visitation will be after the service. Burial of Helen's ashes will be at the convenience of the family in New Oxford Cemetery.
