Gilbert P. Smith, 79, passed Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at his home.  He was the husband of Barbara A. (Balek) Smith, his wife of 60 years.

Gill was born August 17, 1945, in Hanover, the son of the late Mahlon J. and Anne M. (Grove) Smith.

Gill was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Oxford,  Carpenter's Local # 191, and a life member of New Oxford Social & Athletic Club.  He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren, camping, hunting, NASCAR, Penn State football, Kansas City Chiefs football, and his dog buddy.

In addition to his wife Barb, Gill is survived by a daughter, Amy V. Sponseller and her husband Eric of New Oxford, a son, Gilbert J. Smith and his wife Terri of New Oxford, three grandchildren, Emily Zinn and her husband James, Abbey Sponseller and Shawn Kramer, two great grandchildren, Jacob Zinn and Charlotte Zinn, and a sister, Maxine Herman of East Berlin.  He was predeceased by a daughter, Dianne M. Smith.

Following cremation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 10 AM, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 106 Carlisle St, New Oxford, with Rev. Keith Carroll officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  A visitation will be held on Friday, from 6-8 PM, at Feiser Funeral Home, Inc, 302 Lincoln Way West, New Oxford, with the rosary at 8 PM.  Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, or to VNA/Hospice, 440 N.
