Francis (Frank) Charles Schuhart, born November 4, 1927 in York, Pennsylvania to Frank Francis Schuhart and Ethel Clara Schuhart, died on September 15, 2024. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Dolores Ann Schuhart, his parents, and his sister, Rita Heckman.
Frank served in the US Navy in both World War II (June 1945 – August 1946) and the Korean War (June 1951 to August 1954). He served as a Watertender Third Class USNR in both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. In World War II he served on the USS Ashtabula. During the Korean War, Frank served on the USS Aldebaran (AF-10) and the USS LST-1144 and was assigned to the US Naval Receiving Stations in Washington DC and Brooklyn NY.
Frank worked for the Diocese of Harrisburg for over 45 years, first farming the Paradise Home for Boys land then as Maintenance Supervisor and teaching woodshop and welding to the boys. He was also mayor of East Berlin for a short time as well as a member of the East Berlin Volunteer Fire Department and ambulance crew for many years.
Frank enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing and spending time with family. He helped all his children with many projects around their homes. He was a wonderful caregiver for Dolores as her health declined with Alzheimer's disease.
Frank leaves behind his 4 children: Teresa Schuhart, Michael (Rebecca) Schuhart, Jody (Scott MacDougal) Schuhart and Sandra Chockla; 10 grandchildren: Tina (Ron Batcher) Cappetta, Jonathan (Jess), Nathaniel (Emily), Makayla, and Joshua Schuhart, Erin (Andrew Freeman) and Kelly MacDougal, Andrew (Gosia), Janelle, and Aaron (Melissa) Chockla; 13 great-grandchildren: Seth (Tori), Kayla and Adam Orcutt, Jackson and Quinn Schuhart, Skylar Schuhart, Natalie and Emily Chockla, Emmett and Jasper Hair-Chockla, and Kensie, Olivia, and Wes Chockla. He is also survived by his sister, Anna Mae Hoffheins, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him and will miss him greatly.
The family is holding a viewing and funeral mass at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbottstown on Wednesday 9/25. The viewing is from 10:00 – 11:00am, with the mass immediately following at 11:00am. Frank will be buried at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery on Thursday 9/26. A short service will be held at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Frank's memory, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association.
