Emmert E. Hartzell, Sr., 88, of New Oxford, died Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Claremont Nursing Home in Carlisle. He was the husband of Isabel M. (Smith) Hartzell, his wife of 64 years.

Emmert was born November 5, 1928 in Hampton, the son of the late Daniel E. and Lydia G. (Nell Simpson) Hartzell.

Emmert was a Veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Army, and a former Reading Twp. Tax Collector. He was employed with McClarin Plastic's Co. of Hanover for many years, where he later retired.  Emmert was a life member of the New Oxford Social and Athletic Club, the Hampton Fire Co. Number 10, and the Hanover VFW Post 2506. He loved to bowl and attend sprint car races.

In addition to his wife, Isabel, Emmert is survived by a son, Emmert E. Hartzell, Jr. and his wife Patty, of New Oxford, a daughter, Luanne M. Megonnell and her husband Jeff, of New Oxford, two grandsons, Travis D. Megonnell of New Oxford and Dustin W. Hartzell of Downingtown, and one great granddaughter, Hailey L. Hartzell of Downingtown. He was predeceased by one daughter, Tracy A. Hartzell, a sister, Lena Trimmer, and one brother, Harold Hartzell.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at 2:30 PM at the Hampton Union Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Hampton Fire Company, 5371 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford, PA 17350. Feiser Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of the arrangements.
