Earl E. Bortner, 94, passed Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at The Brethren Home Community.  He was the husband of Shirley L. (Rebert) Bortner, his wife of 47 years, and the late Janet V. (Dayhoff) Bortner.

Earl was born April 15, 1929, in Jefferson, the son of the late Earl W. and Velma (Rohrbaugh) Bortner.

Earl was a member of Wellspring Wesleyan Church in Hanover.  He enjoyed hunting with hounds, groundhog hunting, and spending time with his family, especially the younger members.  Earl worked as an auto mechanic for his family's garage in Glenville as a logger for P.H. Gladfelter Pulpwood Company, and as a mechanic at L & H Trucking where he retired.

He will be remembered for putting a smile on other's faces and the light of Christ that shone so bright in his life.

In addition to his wife Shirley, Earl is survived by his children, Gary L. Bortner, Earl E. Bortner, Jr, Barry L. Bortner, Timothy A. Bortner, Christine H. Noyes, Barbara A. Menges, Dwight B. Bortner, Gwendolyn F. Cottle, Teresa A. Bedtelyon, Travis B. Bortner, Kimberly K. Bankert, Gail J. Fesh, Troy K. Bortner, and Arlis T. Bortner, 40 grandchildren, 69 great grandchildren, a brother, Titus S. Bortner, and two sisters, Romaine Kulp and Dorcas Englehardt.  He was predeceased by two brothers, Lester and Donald Bortner, and a sister, Elaine Bortner.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 19, 2023 at 10 AM, at Wellspring Wesleyan Church, 127 Hickory Ln, Hanover, with Pastor Jerry Beers officiating.  Burial will be in Marburg Memorial Gardens, Hanover.  A viewing will be held at the church on Monday, from 9 AM until the time of the service.  Memorial contributions may be made to the church.  Feiser Funeral Home, Inc, 302 Lincoln Way West, New Oxford, is in charge of arrangements.  Memories may be shared at www.feiserfuneralhome.com.
