“Duck” Shoemaker
July 20, 1940 – February 21, 2022
Donald J. "Duck" Shoemaker, 81, passed away of natural causes after a brief stay at York Hospital on Monday, February 21, 2022. He was the husband of Betty A. (Hinkle) Shoemaker, his wife, with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage in October 2021.
Duck was born July 20, 1940, on the Family Farm in Dover which is now Cedar Lake Campground. The son of the late Floyd "Bill" and Ethel Vista (Ritchie) Shoemaker,he was the last remaining child of nine siblings.
Duck worked all his life in the construction business beginning with Walter J. Hamme, Robert A. Kinsley Inc.,and Richard Krall Excavating. He, his son, and his wife owned and operated DBS Construction, Inc. for 26 years. He was a perfectionist in all his endeavors, a terrific craftsman spending many hours in his wood shop creating wood items that have been very popular at family gatherings that included auctions.
Duck is survived by his wife Betty (Hinkle) Shoemaker. He leaves his precious granddaughters, JoDi and her husband Colton Reed, and Jena Shoemaker and her friend Preston, special daughter-in-law, Mary Shoemaker, and his very special Great Grandson Bradley Reed who brought much joy to his "Pappy". His Sister-in-Laws Doris, JaneyShoemaker, Donna Hinkle, and Brother-in-Law Larry.
Duck was preceded in death by his son Bradley and his siblings; Hazel, Kathleen "Kay", Owen, Floyd Jr., Dale Sr., Shirley, Wayne, Connie, and Leonard.
Duck loved his antique "Allis Chalmers" tractors and attending shows each year showing his restored "WD 45" tractor. Don was happiest while spending time in the mountains at the Flying Buck hunting camp. As he would always say, "Everything is finer in the "Hyner!". Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 28, 2022, at 11:00, Feiser Funeral Home, 306 Harrisburg Street, East Berlin, PA. Burial will be private. All are welcome to attend a service. A viewing will be held on Sunday, February 27, 2022, from 2 to 6 pm and again on Monday, February 28 at 9:30 am until time of service at 11:00 am.
