Obituary

Charles Vernon Marquet passed away on December 14, 2017, at Columbia Cottage in Hanover, at the age of 93.  He was the husband of Carol J. (Blackwell) Marquet and the late Ethel L. (Houser) Marquet.

Charles was born May 21, 1924, in Hanover, the son of the late Harry R. and Emma G. (Luckenbaugh) Marquet.

Charles was a member of St. John's U.C.C. in New Chester.  Early on, he was employed by Carl W. Dean, hay dealer, and later took over the hay business, and remained a hay dealer for approximately 38 years.  He was also a farmer, raising Hereford cattle, was a landlord of numerous houses and apartments, and later served as a Huntington Township supervisor.  He enjoyed gardening, going to tractor shows, and spending his winters in Florida, and was also a member of the Antique Automobile Club of American, Gettysburg Region.  He liked to attend car shows with his antique cars, especially his 1929 Model A.

Charles is survived by two sons, Gary W. Marquet and his wife Shirley, and Kenneth C. Marquet, a half-brother, Samuel A. Marquet and his wife Donna, a half-sister, Grace (Nickey) Ruppert, four grandchildren, Samantha S. (Uffelman) Soto, Michael A. Uffelman, Jr, Catherine I. Wallen, and Dorothy L. Marquet, seven great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren.  He was predeceased by a daughter, Rosalie A. Uffelman, a grandson, John W. Marquet, two brothers, John C. Marquet and Harry F. Marquet, a half-brother, William J. Marquet, Sr, and two half-sisters, Mildred I. (Marquet) Small and Margaret J. (Marquet) Knaub.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at 11 AM at St. John's U.C.C. Cemetery, 2243 Hunterstown-Hampton Rd, New Oxford, with his pastor, Rev. Douglas C. Hahn officiating.  A viewing will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2017, from 6-8 PM at the Feiser Funeral Home, Inc, 302 Lincoln Way West, New Oxford.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Land Conservancy of Adams County, PO Box 4584, 670 Old Harrisburg Rd, Gettysburg, PA  17325.  Memories may be shared at www.feiserfuneralhome.com.
