Charles R. Chubb, 96, of Hanover, died Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at his residence. He was the husband of Helen R. (Goodwin) Chubb, and the late A. Grace Chubb, who died January 20, 1996.
Charles was born March 27, 1920 in Perry Twp., PA, the son of the late Charles A. and Elizabeth (Aucker) Chubb.
Charles was a member of Harvest Time Temple in Hanover and was the prior owner of Lincolnway Sales and Service in Abbottstown. He was a member of the Abbottstown Lions Club, where he was a past president, Lion of the Year in 1986-87 and 1989-90, and a Melvin Jones Fellowship Award winner. He was also a former mayor of Abbottstown, an avid hunter, fisherman and snowmobiler, helped build Costa Rica's Pan-American Highway, and was a member of the York Co. Garageman's Association, PA Grand Canyon Snowmobile Club, and the Greensprings Rod & Gun Club.
In addition to his wife Helen, Charles is survived by a son, Frank C. Chubb; a stepdaughter, Shirley V. Creek of New Oxford; a sister, Irene Myers of East Berlin; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Clarence, Millard and Robert Chubb; and two sisters, Gladys Fahs and Mary Baker.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 3, 2016 at 11 AM at Harvest Time Temple, 700 Black Rock Road, Hanover, with his pastor, Rev. Fred Mummert, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery in Abbottstown. A viewing will be held on Friday at the church from 10 AM until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
