Obituary

Betty Jane (Dellinger) Rhodes passed peacefully at her home on Sunday, May 26, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was 92-years-old.

Betty was born in Cumberland County, Penn., on July 20, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Paul and Emma Catherine (Ziegler) Dellinger. She was a 1949 graduate of Gettysburg High School.

Betty married Donald P. Rhodes on June 4, 1950. She moved from her family dairy farm to the Rhodes' dairy farm where she lived and worked for 73 years. The pair would have celebrated 74 years of marriage on June 4, 2024.

Betty was a longtime member of Trinity United Church of Christ (Trinity Christian Fellowship) in Biglerville. She belonged to Conewago Chapter No.532 Order of the Eastern Star. She was active in the organization for decades, where her warmth and leadership led to lifelong friendships. Her titles included Worthy Matron from 1967-1968 and Chapter Secretary along with other offices.

Betty is one of a dozen children and was preceded in death by eight siblings; Violet Warrenfeltz, Brunetta Sibert, Esther Walker, Paul Dellinger Jr., Robert Dellinger, Gerald Dellinger, Virginia Swartz and Ronald Dellinger. She is survived by sisters Vivian Knox (Mike), Beverly Walker (Robert) and Dolores Welker (Boyd).

She is survived by her husband, Donald; four children, Tedd Rhodes (Jacki), Sharon Eckert (Brian), Carol McGeehan, Donald Rhodes, Jr. (Suzanne). Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, one step grandchild, 10 great grandchildren.

Betty was a kind, gracious and generous lady who always put others before herself, including family, neighbors, friends, and employees. She also loved traveling with her husband out West and to Eastern Star conventions with friends.

She was loved by her family, will be forever missed and always in our hearts. She loved flowers, particularly roses, feeding the hummingbirds, feeding and watching the birds. She loved her grandchildren, step grandchild and great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024, at 11 AM at St. Paul's "The Pines" Lutheran Church, 1535 Hunterstown-Hampton Rd, New Oxford.
