Obituary

Betty Jane (Meals) Duncan, 93, passed away Thursday, December 3, 2020, at The Brethren Home Community, New Oxford. She was the wife of the late James Earl Duncan, her husband of 63 years, who died October 13, 2008.

Betty was born October 6, 1927 in Mechanicsburg, the daughter of the late Ira C. and Helen A. (Whitcomb) Meals.

Betty was the first of eight children. After having six children, Betty went to nursing school where she became an LPN. She worked for Dr. Eshelman in East Berlin for nine years. Betty worked as an LPN at Memorial Hospital in York, and later at the York Hospital. Betty later became employed with The Brethren Home Community where she retired 1982. After retirement, Betty became a member of Transport for Christ, helping with their truck stop evangelism, and helped with "Release time", where she worked with the Dover school District as a volunteer.  Betty loved to plant flowers in her many gardens and took aquatics at the YMCA, and loved to bake cookies for the holidays.

Betty is survived by two sons, Cary J. Duncan and his wife Joanna of Norristown, and  Timothy E. Duncan and his wife Nancy of Toledo OH, three daughters, Cindy L. Bukowski and her husband Richard of Baltimore, MD, Debra K. Iozza of East Berlin, and Angela J. Higgins of Los Angelos, CA, 9 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, three sisters, Lou Lutz of Hanover, Sue Dunbar of Lebanon, and Lois Putt of Carlisle, and one brother Ed Meals of York.  She was predeceased  by a son, Allan L. Duncan, and two brothers, Dale Meals and Ivan Meals.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the family will hold a Celebration of Life service at a future date and location. Burial will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery" the Stone Church" Enola. Feiser Funeral Home, Inc. 302 Lincolnway West is in charge of the arrangements. Memories may be shared at www.feiserfuneralhome.com.
