IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Arlene E.
Leathery
April 20, 1924 – April 22, 2016
Arlene E. Leathery
East Berlin
Born April 20, 1924, Arlene E. Leathery passed on Saturday April 22. She passed at her home surrounded by four of her children. Arlene entered her final home with God after 93 years. She was the wife of Carmon D. Leathery and the daughter of Ralph and Virgie (Sowers) Myers.
Arlene lived her entire 93 years in the East Berlin area where she was an active member of Zwingli United Church of Christ. Strong, loving and faithful she always set an example of Christian living for her eight children, 22 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
Arlene is survived by six of her eight children, sons, Richard E., Jerry R. and Mark B., all East Berlin; and daughters, Jane Moul, Lisa Leathery Weigle and Jalinda Leathery. Her twins, Daniel Leathery and Donna Herren, passed before her as did her grandchildren, Angie Balek and William Wentz. In addition, she lost her husband of 49 years and all eight of her siblings, brothers, Walter, Earl, Melvin and George Myers, and sisters, Doris Baker, Shirley Starner, Ruth Chronister and Treva Chronister.
Her family and friends will remember her as a home maker, cooking wonderful soups, red beet eggs, and goodies, especially her pies. She loved flowers, both indoor and outdoor, and had a real green thumb for violets. She always had time for her church and was a regular in the Zwingli kitchen. Having taught Sunday school for many years and an active member of the Mite Society and Goldies, she had many friends from the Zwingli and East Berlin area. Most of her life was made up of hard work, raising her family, managing a home chicken farm business and later working at Penn Wood Products. She was a loving mother, grandmother, good friend and was always willing to help others.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Arlene's funeral on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Zwingli U.C.C., 403 W. King St, East Berlin, with her pastor, the Rev. Dr. Margaret J. Wise officiating. Burial will be in East Berlin Cemetery. There will be no viewing, however, the family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial Contributions may be made to the church.
