IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alice M.
Whippen

Alice M. Whippen
New Oxford
Alice Marie (Whitaker) Whippen entered into God's eternal care on Friday, May 12, 2017, at her residence. She was the wife of Warren G. Whippen, her beloved husband of 70 years.
Alice was born July 21, 1925, in Cooperstown, NY, the daughter of the late Earnest T. and Mildred (Weeks).
After completing high school, Alice went to New York City and became a cadet nurse, working and studying at St. Luke's Hospital. She acquired a New York State nursing license. Alice and Warren were married June 21, 1946 in Cooperstown.
Alice used her nurses training mainly with her family. She lived in York where she became involved in Brownies, PTA and worked with the community to form a new church, Hayshire Community Church. She traveled to Europe several times and went across the USA to the Seattle World's Fair. The family toured each state as they passed through. She enjoyed ten years on a Dover farm just outside of Dover with two ponds and three horses. Enjoying many hobbies and skills, Alice was a gifted gardener, prolific knitter and quilter, and talented watercolorist. She enjoyed square dancing with Warren, church choir, and swimming. Always involved with friends, neighbors and family, Alice sent cards or food to any who needed comfort or a word of cheer.
In addition to her husband, Warren, Alice is survived by four daughters, Deirdre Baker of York, Marie Holtzapple of Mechanicsburg, Madelyn Wineka of Littlestown, and Donna Rinehart of Dover. Alice also has nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held on Monday, May 29, 2017 at 11 a.m., at the Nicarry Meeting House of The Brethren Home Community, 2990 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford, with the Rev.
