Mary L.J. (Beckman) Smith, 83, died Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at The Brethren Home Community.  She was the wife of the late William E. Smith, Jr, who died December 16, 2009.

Mary was born November 30, 1934, in Baltimore, MD, the daughter of the late Frederick W. and Hazel R. (Orndorff) Beckman.

Mary is survived by her children, Sharon Scanlon of Owings Mills, MD, Robert Smith and his wife Mary of Lutherville, MD, and Rose Umstead of Hanover, four grandchildren, Steven Miles and his wife Jessica of Arnold, MD, Scott Umstead of Hanover, Jessica Beard and her husband Andrew of Nottingham, MD, and Ryan Smith and his fiancée Brittany of Nottingham, MD, two great grandchildren, Annabelle and William Beard, and a sister-in-law, Betty Beckman of Bel Air, MD.  She was predeceased by a brother, Glenn Beckman, and a sister, Margie Brown.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 15, 2018 at 11 AM, at The Nicarry Meeting House of The Brethren Home Community, 2990 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford, with Rev. Linda Titzell officiating.  Burial will be private.  A viewing will be held on Monday, at Nicarry, from 10 AM until the time of the service.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund of The Brethren Home Community.  Feiser Funeral Home, Inc, 302 Lincoln Way West, New Oxford, is in charge of arrangements.    Memories may be shared at www.feiserfuneralhome.com.
