Clarence "Bep" Ford Obituary

Clarence M. “Bep” Ford, 92, passed away suddenly on Monday, April 16, 2018 at The Brethren Home Community.  He was the husband of Jean M. (Millar) Ford, his wife of 69 years.

Clarence was born January 12, 1926, in Tyrone Twp., Adams Co., the son of the late James E. and Dora M. (Smith) Ford.

Clarence was a life member of the Great Conewago Presbyterian Church in Hunterstown, the New Oxford Social & Athletic Club, and a member of the Biglerville V.F.W.  He was a member of the Hunterstown Ruritan Club for 60 years, where he served in all offices and was the club treasurer for many years, and received the Tom Downing award last year.  He was a member of the Great Conewago Presbyterian Cemetery Association for 44 years, and served as president for 22 years.  He was a 1943 graduate of Arendtsville Vocational High School, and joined the U.S. in January 1944 and was stationed Sheepshead Bay, NY.  He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines form May 1944 until August 1946, receiving citations for serving in the Atlantic, Pacific, and the Mediterranean Middle East War Zones.  He also sailed to many ports in South America.  He was a farmer, carpenter and construction supervisor most of his adult life, working in PA, MD, WV, SC, and Washington, D.C. on construction jobs.  He also rented houses, apartments and mobile homes to tenants.

In addition to his wife Jean, Clarence is survived by his children, Glenn Ford, and Fred Ford, both of New Oxford, Shirley Hartzell and her husband Ray of Biglerville, and Nancy Shull of Arendtsville, six grandchildren, Eric Burrier, Melissa Shull, James Reese, Tammy Farley, Jamie Strausbaugh, and Angela Rudisill, seven great grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and two sisters, Mildred Snyder and Helen Eller.  He was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Reese and a brother, J. Clair Ford.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 20, 2018, at 10:30 AM, at the Great Conewago Presbyterian Church, 174 Red Bridge Rd, Gettysburg, with Rev. Candace Nyiri officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  A viewing will be held at the church on Friday from 9:30 AM until the time of the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church, the Great Conewago Presbyterian Cemetery Association, Hunterstown Ruritan club, or The Brethren Home Community.  Feiser Funeral Home, Inc, 302 Lincoln Way West, New Oxford, is in charge of arrangements.  Memories may be shared at www.feiserfuneralhome.com.
