Carroll L. Kuhn

Carroll L. Kuhn, 87, of East Berlin, died Monday, July 30, 2018 at the home of his step daughter. He was the husband of the late Louise M. (Fleshman) Kuhn, who died on October 26, 2005.

Carroll was born on February 2, 1931, in Garfield, MD, the son of the late Bernard and Olive (Lewis) Kuhn.

Carroll worked at the Gettysburg Shoe Co. on the maintenance crew and later retired from Wimpey Minerals Co., where he drove the grader.

Carroll enjoyed camping at Conewago Campgrounds in Biglerville, where each night he had to have a big fire, a place where the fire circle was filled with family and friends.

Carroll grew up near Camp David, MD, where his father worked. He enjoyed telling stories of his childhood, and of the time, as a young boy, when he met President Roosevelt. When the President had his driver stop at the local country store called Wolf's, to buy cigars, Carroll, while sitting on the steps of the store, eating ice cream, saw the President roll down the window of his car and speak to him. Carroll was scared to death at the meeting, and ran all the way home to tell his mom. She didn't believe him until the local gossip reached her. Carroll recalled the times Jackie Kennedy rode horses, along with her security team, by their house. The family wants to thank Hospice & Community Care. What a great group of people! They enjoyed Carroll educating them on "country style" medicine, and also to the CHC Nurses, especially Jessica Dedrick, who selflessly gave of her time bringing happiness into Carroll's life. And a special thanks to Donna Little, a long time devoted friend to the family.

Carroll is survived by two nephews; Danny Kuhn and his wife Judy of Biglerville, and Robert Kuhn, Jr. of Fayetteville, PA, two step daughters; Mary A. Myers of East Berlin, and Vicki Anderson and her husband Steve of Hanover, two step sons; Dock Ernest Sloan and his wife Lori of Hanover, and Mervin Sloan of Hamburg, PA, and 10 step grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert "Bob" Kuhn.

Carroll's wishes were not to have a viewing. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at 11:00 AM, in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 1380 Chambersburg Rd, Gettysburg, PA, with Jessica Dedrick officiating.
