Beverly C. (Higgins) Hershey, 75, died Monday, January 7, 2019, at The Brethren Home Community. She was the wife of Philip A. “Andy” Hershey.
Beverly was born June 5, 1943, in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of the late William G. and Mary H. (Riddleberger) Higgins, II.
Beverly was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbottstown, and graduated with a RN degree in nursing from Georgetown University. She was a former member of St. Joseph School Board, Young Women’s Club, League of Women Voters and the York County School Nurse Association, all in York. When Bev chose school nursing as the last and longest phase of her professional career, she preferred and did work with middle school children. She felt that this time of their lives was so important and formative. We are sure that she in some way, great or small, helped many of them find the right path.
In addition to her husband Andy, Beverly is survived by a daughter, Katie A. Grimes of York, a son, Matthew S. Hershey of Darien, CT, four grandchildren, Andrew Hershey, Mateo Hershey, Aiden Hershey, and Adrian Shaffer, a brother, Stephen H. Higgins of Inglis, FL, and two sisters, Barbara H. Crane of Walnut Creek, CA, and Bonnie L. Barnes of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. She was predeceased by a brother, William G. Higgins, III.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 11, 2018, at 11 AM, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 6084 W. Canal Rd, Abbottstown, with Rev. Timothy D. Marcoe officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. There will be no viewing, however, the family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 10 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund of Cross Keys Village The Brethren Home Community, 2990 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford, PA 17350. This is a fund established to assist villagers who have depleted their assets, to live out their lives in a warm, safe, and loving place. Feiser Funeral Home, Inc, 302 Lincoln Way West, New Oxford, is in charge of arrangements. Memories may be shared at www.feiserfuneralhome.com.
