Mary L. (Stonecliffe) Beard

Mary L. (Stonecliffe) Beard, 77, of New Oxford, died Saturday, August 12, 2017 at HealthSouth Rehab Hospital in York.  She was the wife of Timothy D. Beard, III, her husband of 56 years.

Mary was born September 8, 1939, in Flint, MI, the daughter of the late Robert C. and Irene L. (King) Stonecliffe.

Mary was a member of The Mother Church of the First Church of Christ, Scientist of Boston, MA; the National Rifle Association of Fairfax, VA; and the Adams County and PA Republican Women’s Association.  She was a 1960 graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in home economics, worked as an extension agent at Ohio State University, University of Maryland, and Rutgers University, and worked for 20 years at Parcel Post as an income tax preparer.  She was co-owner of Gray Wolf Plantation in New Oxford, where she was known as the “Pumpkin Lady”, and was the elected auditor for Hamilton Township.  She was dedicated to and very proud of her family, and will always be remembered for her cheerful attitude, love of family, service to her community, her wonderful, tender pie crusts, and her quilting. 

In addition to her husband Tim, Mary is survived by a daughter, Michelle L. Collins and her husband Keith of Hilliard, OH, a son, Timothy D. Beard, IV, and his wife Jovelyn, of Falls Church, VA, three grandchildren, two brothers, John Stonecliffe of Rockford, IL, and George Stonecliffe of Portland, OR, and a sister, Donna Hunsberger of Boston, MA. 

Following cremation, a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 7 PM, at the Feiser Funeral Home, Inc, 302 Lincoln Way West, New Oxford, with Rev. Linda Titzell officiating.  Burial will be private.  A visitation will be held on Wednesday at the funeral home from 6 PM until the time of the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 924N Colonial Ave, York, PA  17403.  Memories may be shared at www.feiserfuneralhome.com.
